I agree with Alexis. For example, in https://git.leafac.com/pollen-component/tree/documentation/pollen-component.scrbl#n20 I use SHA–1 to generate a file name based on its contents, as a way to cache the results. There’s nothing wrong with SHA–1 for this purpose.
