@greg (and others)… Do I remember right that you use a mac? If so, what emacs build are you running and how’s it going for you?

I’ve decided not to declare emacs bankruptcy so much as declare complacency bankruptcy and now I’m attacking all the stuff I’ve let slide.

@zenspider I’ve been using Emacs almost exclusively on Ubuntu 18.04 on a ThinkPad for about a year and a half: https://www.greghendershott.com/2019/06/linux-laptop.html

Before that I was using a MacBook (the small, no-fan thing) and installing Emacs from https://emacsformacosx.com/

Which always worked fine for me.

Hrmph… that is what I used to be using but now it drives me nuts because it won’t play nice w/ OSX… at least, it completely ignores '(ns-use-native-fullscreen nil) and insists on generating a new space. [eta: THE FIRST TIME… after that it works fine… but that’s maddening]

I would like to open up that question to everyone else…

I’ve heard someone has a more-tweaked-for-macOS build, that might do better for stuff like this? Well, I’m sure multiple folks do custom builds — but this one seemed relatively popular/reputable, at least a year or two ago, when I heard about it? I can’t think of the name right now…

> Mitsuharu Yamamoto’s Mac port is based on the latest stable release of GNU Emacs (27.1 as of 2020–11) (26.2 as of 2019–07–05) and claims to incorporate most of the features of Carbon Emacs and the Carbon+AppKit port from Emacs 22.3. It has improved C-g support, an emulation of ‘select’ that doesn’t require periodic polling, full screen support, subpixel font rendering, and smooth (pixel) scrolling. See the readme for more details. Available via Homebrew and MacPorts (as emacs-mac-app), as discussed below, or prebuilt binaries.

Again, I’ve ever tried it and can’t vouch for it, but ISTR other people saying good things. It just never solved a problem I had, and I try to be boring.

I’m using that now but having problems with emacsclient in terminal… it insert “I” and “O” when I app switch?!? and some strange numbers on the start and stop of a pasted region.

I’m gonna try to build a plain GNU emacsclient and see if that behaves
