Now I’m thinking October and November as building a game is significant effort and people need time to form teams etc.

Yeah there is a great variety in length of a gamejam. Some are in the 3–7 day range (which reminds me of the ICFP contest in a way) and some are longer.

November has Thanksgiving which is kinda week long holiday in the US.

October is pretty soon, it feels rushed. Plus in November I’d be able to use my Thanksgiving vacation time to make a game

…but October is Hacktoberfest!
