It just finished. Unfortunately output/{accuracies,}/NaiveBayesGibbs/jags/20-19997-10 still only got one data point. But I just noticed that your two commits affecting runners/hk/NaiveBayesGibbs/Main.hs (44a1bdd5 and 2030737c) are newer than my runners/hkbin/naiveBayesGibbs binary. So I’m going to get the latest image and import a new appliance and try again.

(What I mean is I hope you recompiled the binaries using ghc)

Judging from the mtime of runners/hkbin/naiveBayesGibbs, you did recompile Main.hs, yay! I’m letting it run while going to bed.

I woke up to JAGS curves that last 400 curves. Yay! But even though the JAGS log likelihood curve looks normal, the JAGS accuracy curve stays at 0% the whole time. Any guesses as to what’s going wrong?

Who should I contact for getting airplane tickets, hotel bookings, and international health insurance? I looked at the website and I don’t know if I can go to the San Fransisco consulate as it says go to your home state and I need to show proof of address which is a utility bill.

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:41:54

Do you have a utility bill?

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:43:29

International health insurance is something I used to buy online before going to my visa appointment. I’ll email you the suppliers I used to use.

yeah but it is for bloomington not portland. In portland I am staying in an airbnb

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:44:23

Does it have to be a utility bill?

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:44:42

I mean, you could get a free trip to Chicago instead of to SF…

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:46:11

If you go to Chicago, do you have to mention your job in Portland at all? For example, do you have to talk about your F–1 OPT (?) status at all, or just say you’re studying at IU on F–1?

ccshan

Hotel bookings: you can make a refundable (“flex”) reservation, either on a hotel’s own Web site or on a booking site. After you get the visa, you can cancel it and make the “real” booking.

I don’t think I have to mention my job in portland at all

rjnw
2019-5-18 19:48:28

it just says if my residence is in indiana I need to go chicago and use a utility bill for proof

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:48:34

Then I’d look at the appointments available in Chicago

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:50:11

Plane tickets: It seems that you have to go to a travel agency nowadays if you want to make a reservation without paying for it (without ticketing it). You could do that, or pay for a refundable ticket (and cancel it and get refunded after you get the visa), or pay for your real ticket right away (and get reimbursed by IU after your trip), or use Egencia at IU to buy your real ticket and make IU pay for it right away.

rjnw
2019-5-18 19:50:51

how do I use egencia at IU?

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:51:06

One reason to not show the Chicago consulate your real plane ticket is that it would depart from PDX, not IND.

rjnw
2019-5-18 19:52:00

oh yeah. there are no appointments in chicago but there are appointments available in san fransisco

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:56:34

I just sent Lynne an email regarding Egencia.

ccshan
2019-5-18 19:58:02

I would in parallel (1) keep trying to call the SF consulate to ask for alternative ways to prove you’re in Portland this summer; (2) make sure to get a letter from Galois documenting your working there; (3) try to get a letter from your AirBNB host; (4) print out everything you have already received from AirBNB regarding this trip.

ccshan

Nothing to exercise your checklist skills like a visa application.

rjnw
2019-5-18 19:59:42

yes I will do that

It seems that the JAGS output has changed— the labels returned are now 0.0 19.0 rather than 1 20. Do you know why?? So, in order to get a NB accuracy plot similar to before, I had to change equal? to = in jags-accuracy and remove map sub1 in cleanup-jags.
