An ellipse. The points on the ellipse are the two foci, the vertices on both the major and minor axis. The two lines are the directrices.

Forgot to name the point P on the ellipse (30 degrees from the x-axis). The lines shows that the distance from P to the directrix times the eccentricity 0.5 is the distance from P to the focus.

Ah, I see. I didn’t know that ellipse has directrices too. Was only aware that the sum of focus-1 to p + focus-2 to p must stay constant.

That is the most important property. I can’t remember actually needing directrices for anything.
