mac is different because cmd+… is used for most regular keybindings. Elsewhere, ctrl+… is the regular bindings, so ^k/^y probably are occupied already in those systems.

well, the reason why it works on mac is because those GUI elements are backed by libreadline/libedit, so the default key bindings are just there. Another GUI toolkit could do the same if it wanted.
