While I do agree that there’s a bit of a https://xkcd.com/927/ feel to this, I can definitely see the utility. There have sometimes been massive (useful and important) discussions take place in GitHub issues, where it wasn’t really an issue. This looks like an improvement in that it changes the conceptual framing of it (if that makes sense).

E.g. just yesterday I was thinking that I would like to ask a repo’s maintainer a question about their library, and the only (obvious) way to do that was to open an issue, which just really didn’t seem correct to me. This is a highly preferable alternative for me, and I imagine the maintainer too.
