Even though I knew “chez” perfectly well as a French word, for some reason I thought this would be another programming language with a quirky pronunciation, so I’ve been saying it like Pez in my head this whole time.

@soegaard2 “I feel odd doing a talk about optimization…anything to do with efficiency”(laughter) - thats what I hear.

This is … strange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm4y5UqauRw
Functional programming has become too main stream?!

It’s still a one-line lambda though

> Functional programming has become too main stream?! I don’t think that’s possible :stuck_out_tongue: (also, I based on some Microsoft Research internship ads I have looked at in the past, I strongly suspect that Simon Peyton Jones had a hand in Excel Lambda’s creation)

“Functional programming” has become so overloaded. Based on who you ask, it can mean anything “first class functions” to “declarative” to “no impure functions”. At this point, for FP advocates, I think it literally just means “awesome-sauce”.

Yip. My first response whenever I see someone ask about “functional programming” (rather than a more-specific topic) is to ask, “What do you mean by functional programming?”
I’m yet to come up with a good definition of FP that encompasses all the facets of it, without basically just being a definition of computer programming in general

Isn’t the definition of FP “non-mainstream programming”? :stuck_out_tongue:

Monads

Ooooh, controversial!
