You know what I find interesting about Racket Users? (Curiosity only.) A considerable proportion of all messages are not plain text. Perhaps over 50%. I never bothered to look at which mail clients are being used, but I’d guess it’s all popular web clients, which would probably explain the HTML popularity. Would you guess that programmers would be using HTML these days to talk about programming? (The messages that I look at never quite use anything like bold fonts or colors, so though people are writing HTML, there doesn’t seem to be any intention or need for it. I don’t participate in any other programming language mail lists, but I wonder if the same trend is taking place in other languages. Would HTML be a Racketeer-trend?)

I would tend to think the trend is common to the entire internet. HTML is the default in nearly all common email clients (including standalone apps) and Im not sure why 99% of people would go out of their way to limit themselves to plain text. (Not to say there aren’t 12 people on this slack who bother to do so )

Some (not all) of the vim mailing list users are entirely plain text.

I use plain text by default. :slightly_smiling_face:

@joel For the mails I usually write, I don’t experience plain text as a limitation; at least I don’t feel limited.
