Hello, fellow summer-schoolers. I am traveling London - SLC tomorrow, that is well before the school actually starts. Anyone else in town this early? Happy to meet up, hack, eat, etc. Food recommendations are very welcome (partial to BBQ and such). See you all soon.

@zerusski There are many excellent restaurants in SLC. You will need a car to get to many of them, but you can also get between the University of Utah campus and Salt Lake City downtown via the light-rail system, called TRAX.

I also like 565 Firehouse, but it is further away from the U/downtown: http://www.565firehouse.com/

I would avoid Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, which is a restaurant chain, and L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, which is also a chain.

I’m not sure what you mean by “and such.”

You will get many recommendations to visit the Red Iguana: http://www.rediguana.com/

You should obey them :slightly_smiling_face:, if you like Mexican food at all.

Do not confuse the Red Iguana with the Blue Iguana. They are both Mexican restaurants in SLC, but they are not at all the same.

There are several good brewpubs in Salt Lake City.

This one is the oldest, and IMHO, among the best: http://www.squatters.com/default.aspx

I would not be surprised if there are organized outings to one or more of these restaurants during the summer school.

These look great! Thank you. IIRC last year we went to Blue Iguana.
Special thx for brewpubs :)

One more before I go: my favorite Italian restaurant in SLC is Caffe Molise. They have a nice patio. http://www.caffemolise.com/

@zerusski There is a lot of Utah-local beer to try!

For large beer selections (not all local), you might visit:

Must go now.

Safe travels!

Thank you!!

y’all are making me hungry. But not mentioning several of my favorites.
I also highly recommend Red Iguana. It is amazing and totally worth the light rail hop. There are two very close to each other and they both always have lines. Just ask them which one is shorter and walk to that one.
Tony Caputos has a great deli (I love the antipasto salad) and has the largest selection of chocolate I’ve ever seen. Great cheeses and charcuterie as well.
Copper onion is fantastic upscale food while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere.
I don’t remember the name of the whisky bar I went to… [Something] street pub? Their food was actually quite amazing. The deviled eggs blew my mind at how good they were. (I think it was wasabi mixed in? or something)… Just know that the legal pours in SLC are light, yet the prices are the same as anywhere else. Pretty good selection tho

I rather enjoy the brazilian steakhouse for a meat heavy meal. It’s a chain iirc, but quite tasty.
The other meat heavy meal I remember down there… two! there was a good steak house downtown I can probably find on a map. Couple blocks NW of the courthouse. And a couple blocks north of the courthouse was a donar kabab place that was delicious and pretty cheap

that was it

this killed me:
> Deviled Eggs Pimento cheese, bourbon smoked paprika, double smoked bacon, pickled mustard seed, chive

I think I also had:
> Stuffed Free Range Chicken Airline breast, spinach, artichoke heart, fontina, chorizo stuffing, creamy polenta, grilled asparagus, red wine kalamata pan jus
